The Head of Bappenas explained that government wanted to carry out economic recovery by building the IKN. This was conveyed in an interview with Kompas TV, held on Tuesday, April 6th, 2021.
“So actually we want to carry out an economy recovery, in the framework of economic recovery we need a Play Ground for our entrepreneurs, one of which we create is at IKN. So the IKN is a Play Ground to drive the economy. IKN will also create 500,000 jobs, and restore lost working hours, ”said the Head of Bappenas.
Beside talking about economic recovery, Head of Bappenas also highlighted economic equality in the supporting areas for the IKN. This area is expected to be well controlled and regulated.
“Apart from the distance between IKN and Balikpapan and Samarinda, the time frame is not too far from 1-2 hours so that these 3 cities will develop,” he said.
The minister emphasized the discipline of planning and development in IKN, because the government wanted to offer an environmentally friendly city, a city in the middle of a forest where reforestation was carried out, and animal protection.
“Of course this will be tight with regulations, which is important in order to uphold planning discipline. We must maintain the built up area. Therefore, we are not only building IKN, we will also develop Balikpapan, Samarinda and IKN, so that the triangle will grow together, “he added.
The Minister also responded to environmental issues at IKN. “The first KPI for IKN is to design according to natural conditions where 75% of 256 thousand hectares is for green space, in 25% we use the concept of forest city. If we look at it, only 10-15% of the IKN area will be built. This will reinforce our efforts in the framework of protection and conservation of the area, “said the Minister.
Closing the interview, the Minister hopes that IKN will become an example of a forest city in the world.
“We will do replanting of endemic plants there. We have prepared a recovery there. And we hope this will become an example of a forest city in the world, ”concluded the Minister.
